Shuggie Hides When Sick

Shuggie has been under the weather. Because I was off last week, doing the Arturo Ui, I was looking after him. One day he disappeared. I looked everywhere, and eventually found him hiding in this box under the bed in the spare room, where he rarely goes. Aww. Shuggie hiding away when ill

They Call Him Shuggie

When walking the mutt, it’s often the case that when you get chatting with other dog owners and people in general, they ask the name of the dog. Me: “Shuggie.” Fool: “Shoogie?” Me: “No, Shuggie.” Fool: “Shaggy?” Me: “Shuggie.” Fool: “What does it mean?” Me: “In Scotland, men with the first name ‘Hugh’ get the… Continue reading They Call Him Shuggie

Julia Boggio Photography – Advertisement Feature

This is a bit of an advert for a friend, Julia Boggio, who has set up a photography business. Julia has been a keen amateur for a long time, despite some major setbacks while travelling, but now she’s taken the plunge and quit the day job, strapped a Lowepro to her back, grabbed her [insert… Continue reading Julia Boggio Photography – Advertisement Feature

No More Comedy Collar

P-update! Aha! He’s finished his antibiotics, he doesn’t need his lampshade collar any more, and he can now enjoy picking the scabs off (the latter being optional) Every day in every way, he’s getting better and better. And bigger. And naughtier. And hairier – we had to trim his ears last night, because we has… Continue reading No More Comedy Collar

Here Come The Cute Pictures

OK, here’s some pictures of the little fella with his stitches and amusing (for us) collar: Flickr Gallery Poor fella. He has to stick with the collar for a few more days, as his stitches heal (they’ve dissolved according to plan). Not too much exercise, lots of attention and most of all, NO EATING ANY… Continue reading Here Come The Cute Pictures

Home Sweet Home, With Lampshade

He’s home! Shuggie came home yesterday evening, groggy, half shaved, with one of those cool vet lampshade collar things round his neck to stop him biting his stitches out. Frankly he looked rather disreputable. Photos will be taken tonight. He’s got antibiotics and anti-nausea stuff, and special soft food to eat, but he’s only allowed… Continue reading Home Sweet Home, With Lampshade

We Are Bad Parents, I mean Owners

A rather worrying occurence. On Sunday afternoon, Shuggie wandered into the bedroom, under the bed, and found a box containing Christmas decorations. He got into it, found a pretend holly branch made of wire, with red plastic berries. He proceeded to eat part of the branch, berries, wire and all. In the days that followed,… Continue reading We Are Bad Parents, I mean Owners

The First Four Months

My alarm goes off at 7. But Shuggie has got it into his scruffy head that 6.45 is wakeup time, complete with scratching at the bedroom door and whining. But one mustn’t open the bedroom door when he’s whining, because that gives the impression that whining gets results. He’s also in the habit of not… Continue reading The First Four Months

Possible Name Change

Shuggie seems to be teething, as is reasonable at his age. He’s nipping and chewing at everything. In fact Mairi had the idea that we should rename him Chompsky. To which I replied that if we caught him chewing something he shouldn’t, we could shout, “No(am), Chompsky!” Badum-tish.

Here Comes The Pup

We’ve taken the plunge, and bought a dog. A puppy, to be precise. Pushpop Poinsetter, son of Diamond Dolphinium and Wizards Revenge (not sure about the names). His real name of course will be SHUGGIE. Here’s the photos so far: Shuggie Flickr Gallery. We went along to see him at his breeders (all above board… Continue reading Here Comes The Pup
